Information Support Intern
The Intern will work with the DSST technology staff to provide technical support for computers (HP tablet and laptop and a few desktops), servers, and other network devices. 

Duties will include installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, processing of warranty and insurance claims of computers and upkeep of servers and network systems, support for our student techs, documentation, etc. This involves knowledge of (and the ability to learn quickly) a variety of systems, processes and hardware.

Position Goal:
Provide quality service and support for computer users and the computer systems on which users rely.

Terms of internship:
Negotiable:  Exact schedule to be determined.

Payment:
Initial arrangements will be volunteer (support for credit requirements available for students). This position may develop into paid internship, based on demonstrated skills, qualifications and schedule (to be determined).  Intern will be eligible to apply for regular position for fall of 2006.

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Technology Director or his/her designee.

Support tasks:

  1. Repair and maintenance of HP Laptops & Tablet PCs
  2. Assist in providing training and support for school staff & students.
  3. Perform backups of servers.
  4. Install, monitor, maintain, and upgrade network software.
  5. Research and troubleshoot network file and print server operations.
  6. Ensure that automated services are running.
  7. Document network connectivity to include the network topography, server dependencies, automated backup services and password protection.
  8. Provide alerts and direction in the detection of viruses.
  9. Train and assist district staff to use hardware and software efficiently.
  10. Assist in providing tech support for district students and staff.

Relevant Experience Helpful with:

• WinXP, • Windows Server 2003 • Symantec Ghost • Network Administration • Cisco Pix Firewall • DNS • MS Exchange Server 2003 • Cisco IOS • Call Manager • Veritas Backup Exec • Linux • Apache • MySQL
